Arson
The Arson Control Forum Last update: 15 March 2006 2006
Arson affects everyone; it invades communities and threatens business and family security. To tackle deliberate fires and make our communities better and safer places to live and work, the government has set up and funded the Arson Control Forum. Through the Forum, the government has invested heavily in local arson reduction projects, many of which involve the police and fire and rescue services working in partnership with other agencies using the framework of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. The Forum's programme includes the New Projects Initiative, under which locally based arson reduction partnerships in England and Wales have received grants totalling £9.3million for 2003/6 to invest in local arson reduction schemes.
On 23rd January 2006, Jim Fitzpatrick MP announced £11.4 million grant funding for Fire and Rescue Authorities in England for 2006-8 to support fire prevention work, including community fire safety, arson reduction and work with children and young people. This single grant to all Fire and Rescue Authorities replaces the grants paid to some authorities under the Arson Control Forum Implementation Fund and the Community Fire Safety Innovation Fund.
The Arson Control Forum is led by the Department for Communities and Local Government and brings together stakeholders from the fire and rescue services, the police service, local authorities, insurance companies and other government departments such as the Home Office and Department for Education and Skills.
