Crime Reduction - Helping to Reduce Crime in Your Area

Information Sharing News Page

Information Sharing News Page

Hello and welcome to our second Network News-Page designed to keep you up-to-date on all the recent developments in the field of Information Sharing.

  • A major development is the "National Information sharing Model Protocol". This has been placed onto the Crime Reduction web-site (January 2002), and is a key development that many of you have requested over the last months. It is something that was highlighted at the "National Conference on Information Sharing" last September.

  • We fully encourage you to visit the Welcome Page of the National Model Protocol, which has been approved by the Information Commissioner’s Office (along with many other experts in the field.) It is intended as a best practice document upon which to base the compilation of your own information sharing protocols.

  • The Welcome page to The National Model Protocol is currently available at www.crimereduction.gov.uk/infosharing21.htm in a passive format. It will be fully interactive shortly, and you will be able to tailor it to your needs online.

  • We have recently completed detailed guidance on "The Legal Implications to Data Sharing." This paper (which is approved by the Office of the Information Commissioner), examines Common Law, Administrative Law, the Data Protection Act 1998 and Human Rights Act 1998. It guides (in layman’s terms) the crime reduction practitioner through the process of information disclosure. You can find the document at www.crimereduction.gov.uk/infosharing22.htm

  • We have now created Benchmarking Groups on the Health Sector, Drugs, Youth Offending, and Voluntary Organisations on our Crime Reduction web-site. We already have some useful documentation in these benchmarking groups, which is available on our Crime Reduction web-site. As the benchmarking groups are evolving tools, we strongly encourage you to submit examples to us. Please use the groups, as by submitting examples to us, they will flourish! Find the groups at the Information Sharing Knowledgebase page.

  • Don’t forget to check our frequently updated Calendar List of Events page, for seminars and conferences on issues including information sharing!

To submit any information you have onto the Benchmarking Groups or Calendar, you can:
